The Brenham Heritage Museum Seeks Digitized Home Movies for Washington County Timeline Exhibit
Published February 24, 2026
The Brenham Heritage Museum is inviting community members to help preserve local history by contributing digitized 8mm home movies to its growing collection.
As part of an expanded timeline exhibit nearing completion on the museum’s main floor, the museum is seeking already-digitized home movies that capture life in Brenham and Washington County from the 1940s through the 1970s. These films may become part of the final segment of the timeline, which will highlight media, culture, and everyday life during those decades.
“If you’ve already converted your old 8mm films to digital files, we would love to make them part of our collection,” said Mike Vance, who is overseeing the historical content for the exhibit. “The last segment of the timeline will include lots of media and culture, and we’re hoping to feature some of these home movies from the 1940s through the 1970s. Ideally, they might show a local place here in Brenham or Washington County, but if your family took the film camera on vacation, those might work, too. We’re looking to add some fun to this part of the timeline.”
The museum is particularly interested in footage that showcases local landmarks, community events, businesses, schools, churches, family gatherings, and other slices of daily life. Even informal or candid moments can offer valuable insight into the county’s shared history.
Digital files can be transferred to the museum by delivering files on a USB drive to the museum office at 310 East Main Street in Brenham. Contributors will be contacted regarding permissions and credit information prior to any public display.
By sharing these personal films, residents have an opportunity to ensure their family memories become part of the broader story of Washington County.
