Mission
The mission of the Brenham Heritage Museum is to foster the history, art, culture, and humanities of the Brenham-Washington County, Texas region.

History
The Brenham Heritage Museum is housed in the historic former United States Post Office building in Brenham, Texas. Construction began in 1914, after the land was acquired, and was completed in 1916. The building served the community as its primary post office until the mid-1960s, when operations moved to a newer facility nearby. It was then repurposed as a federal office building. Recognizing the importance of preserving local history, the City of Brenham made this landmark building available in 1991 for use as a museum. A nonprofit organization was established, community support was rallied, and the museum soon opened its doors. Over the next 25 years, the museum grew steadily—expanding its collections, developing exhibits, and becoming a cornerstone for historical education in Washington County. In 2016, record-breaking rainfall caused significant flooding, forcing the museum to close for extensive repairs. While challenging, this period ultimately provided an opportunity to fully restore the building, enhance its infrastructure, and thoughtfully reimagine exhibit spaces while preserving the historic structure's architectural integrity.

Today
Since reopening in November 2022, the Brenham Heritage Museum has entered a new era as a modern, dynamic cultural destination. Visitors can experience engaging exhibits, rotating collections, and immersive storytelling that bring the rich heritage of Washington County to life. As the museum continues to grow, it remains committed to serving as a vibrant community resource, bridging generations through history, education, and cultural exploration.
